I don’t usually go for oranges on a day to day basis, but when I do I like to ease my way into the bright color. First I like to use a moisturizing lip balm (I love Vermonts Original Bag Balm). My favorite way to apply lipstick is using my ring finger, it will be the most gentle and give you the lightest application. Using a brush can give you more control and you can build up the colour as little or as much as you please, a brush is also handy because you can make any lip corrections which is always a good idea before applying straight from the bullet. Applying from the lipstick will give you the highest pigmentation, something I’m not always so comfortable with! When using a coral colour I like to make sure I have a bronzed glow, Laguna bronzer by Nars is perfect! I place lightly where the sun would hit (usually the high spots of the face)

Hope these tips help, here is a little quote I’ll leave with.

“I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and… I believe in miracles.” -Audrey Hepburn

This sunset manicure is inspired by cupcakes and cashmere, I instantly fell in love with the summery feel of the colour combinations. I Grabbed every coral, pink, red and orange nail polish that I owned to make an array of sunset colours. Also, I am so excited that we have one baby tomato on our little plant; summer is finally here!

My hair is always a disaster when I am at the beach. The wind and the salt water gives me a dreadlock look that needs taming. Here are four styles that can survive any windsurf, kite surf, stand up paddle, or surf session. Head straight from the beach to lunch in town with these cute solutions.

I started by spraying this D.I.Y  beach spray  all through the hair. It gives texture and a summer “straight from the beach” look and feel.

1. The braided crown was too easy. Start by braiding two sections of your hair into pig tails and fasten with elastics. Bring each braid over the crown of your head and secure with bobby pins. Messy looks even cuter!

2. French braids are my favorite for any water sport. They pull back your bangs and keep the hair separated nicely. A way to make the simple braid a little more fun is to turn the french braid into a fishtail once you reach the neck hairline!

3. If you love to surf with your hair down, this is an easy way to keep bangs out of your eyes. Grab the hair as if you are creating a half up-half down look, wrapping it around an elastic like a bun. Again, it is okay if some hair comes loose.

4. This final look may not be for everyone but I think these pigtails are so sweet! Start by twisting the top of your hair and collect sections all the way down while continuing to twist until past the neck. Then, secure with elastic.

Those are my beach hair alternatives! How do you wear your hair to the beach?

I love the ocean. Every spring my family spends a good deal of time in Maui. We long-board, windsurf, and mingle with the Island culture. Here are some beach items I would love to have for my next trip!

1. I found these cool glasses here . I like the retro feel with the wooden frames.

2. This coral cover-up from arizia is light-weight and easy to through in the bag.

3.  In LOVE with this sweet one piece from free people.

4.. This hat from urban outfitters is too cute. It’s a great beach accessory and a good way to be sun-safe.

5. A straw tote is so versatile and great for a beach bag. This one is from j. crew

6. Nothing like a cold drink on a hot day. I love Smith’s tea and their classy labels. Wish I could get it in Canada!

7. These sandals from urban outfitters are cute and easy to slip on.

8. Essie has the brightest summer colours right now. My favourite for the beach is coral.

9. How cool are these towels? I found them here and I couldn’t resist all the colours!

10. No beach trip is complete without a great book. I love bringing my Kobo. Its easy to carry and great for reading in the blazing sun!

Here is my favourite summer playlist incase you missed it!

This shirt literally took us a minute! We love the slouchy, ragged look and the easy wear!

1. Find an old, oversized t-shirt.

2. Trace your chosen shape with a sharpie. We cropped the front of the shirt and added a flattering, low back.

3. Cut along the lines with a good pair of fabric sheers (we used Gingher), try the shirt on and make any desired alterations!

Here is a Hawaiian twist for a mojito. Better plan this ahead because the pineapple needs to infuse for one week! It is well worth the wait as it will be ready just in time for the weekend! Grab your favorite sundress and have some backyard fun with the girls!

Here is the recipe, we recommend using Appleton’s white rum!

Instead of packing on bronzer in the early days of summer, I have found an illuminator to be much more subtle and natural looking! This is one of my favorite summer looks. It’s so easy and the skin looks nice and healthy!

Step 1: The base

Be sure to use a primer with this look so that it lasts all day! I love Laura Mercier foundation primer found here.

The key to this look is cream products! Mix illuminator with foundation to create glowing skin. My favorite illuminator is this one by Nars. I used 50/50, but use as much or little as you desire depending on what kind of finish you want! I then blended cream bronzer on the nose, chin, cheeks and temples! (anywhere the sun would naturally hit). The star of the show was the cream color base in pearl by MAC. This is truly worth the investment as I used it on the brow bone, inner corner of the eye, cheek bone, down the nose, on the cupids bow and center of lips! I then used Clarins cream blush in coral on her cheeks and blended it outward. blend blend blend!

To finish the eyes I used cream bronzer in the crease, then woodwinked eye shadow by MAC on the lid ,a shimmery gold color that looks great on all skin types! Curl lashes and add a coat of mascara (or five)!!

Step 2:

To take this easy summer day look to evening glam, all I did was use a dark brown pencil from Mac in the color coffee and lined the lash line (getting the roots of the lashes). I extended the liner a little ways outward. I then blended this so that it became a soft line. If you are adding liner to the bottom make sure to connect the top and bottom lines!! Feel free to add more mascara!

Step 3:

I couldn’t resist a red lip with this dewy look! Use any red liner (pencil is key!) and take your time outlining your lips. Once they were filled, I then used Revlon’s Fire 018 gloss overtop. This step may take a little more time but it is worth it as lips will be more defined.

*If you have oily skin use powders instead of cream products, or you can set creams with translucent powder. This way the makeup will last all day without sliding off!
