This past week a chinook rolled through town, it was nice to walk out of the house wearing only one layer instead of the usual ensamble of hat, scarf and down jacket. I feel most comfortable when I am in an oversized plaid shirt and jeans. While this outfit is nothing special, its the one I reach for the most!

One of our favorite places to enjoy a warm cup of something is a place in Canmore called Communitea. It’s definitely a popular place for Mountain people! Both Michaela and I used to study there years ago with a large pot of tea and a treat. Now we come to discuss exciting new blog ideas!

I thought I would share my current evening makeup routine, nothing too flashy here as I like to keep things pretty simple:

- Start by using a primer so that your makeup lasts all evening.

-Even your skin tone using your favorite foundation, a fuller coverage makes for a flawless base.

- Conceal under the eyes and on any problem areas.

-Powder is key especially down the center of your face.

-Bronze the skin on the high points of your face where the sun would naturally hit, temples, cheekbones, nose and chin. Sometimes I even use bronzer as a blush and apply it on the cheeks as well.

-Highlighter is always nice for an evening out. You want to apply it so that it catches the light, on the tops of your cheekbones and under the brow bone.

-Define Brows, if I am going for a more dramatic eye I like to make sure the brows are strong.

-Use a primer if you are going to be using eye shadow, I started by sweeping a gold colour all over my lids, then took a kohl liner and smudged my upper lash line, bringing it underneath my eye as well. I then set the black with a plum coloured eyeshadow and made sure everything was blended well.

-I love using a light frosty pigment just on the inner corners of my eye and brow bone, you can use a frosty eye shadow if you don’t own pigment. I find this step really makes a big difference in opening up the eye!

-Go for a neutral gloss, I always follow this rule if the eyes are dramatic then go for a neutral lip colour. If you want to wear a bright lip then keep the eyes simple.

This is just how I like to wear my makeup, you could go for dramatic eyes pared with bold lips, glitter and fake lashes, but I like to keep things pretty simple and still feel like myself:)

If you have the January Blahh’s this is a great pick me up in the middle of the afternoon. Two scoops of vanilla ice cream, one shot of espresso and you have yourself one amazing treat. This tastes best after a fresh air experience, I enjoyed mine after a long ski this morning. So treat yourself and Enjoy!

It felt like spring today! I opened the door in the morning and was greeted by a gust of warm wind and the sound of melting snow dripping from the roof. I was finally able to walk to school without my usual winter jacket and hat combo. Although I have thoroughly enjoyed winter and all the beauty it has brought, the coming of warmer weather will be much anticipated!

It’s hard to get away with dressing up and not wearing big down coats, hats & sorrels. We snapped these pictures in -20 weather, our hands were about to fall off! When you live in thermals and ski touques all the time, top knots are about all you can do with your hair at the end of the day.

The great thing about starting a new year is being able to have a fresh start. There is a giant list of resolutions that I could go on about; drink more water, read more, get more sleep, waste less. But instead of creating a list of things I should do, I am going to create a dream.  A dream to  be a  better person than I was yesterday. Weather it be eating one less square of chocolate than the day before, or listening to a friends story rather than going on about my own life, pushing myself outside of my comfort zone and finding the good in bad. Having a new beginning won’t happen unless its from within.

This year I was in New York for my 21st birthday during the time that hurricane Sandy hit. We took a walk through Central Park the following day, to see all the damage was devastating. Though the entire park was fenced off, we noticed someone had pushed the fence through and people were walking around in the park, sooooo we decided to quickly walk down strawberry fields across from where John Lennon used to live. Among all the broken branches and fallen leaves someone had cleared the “imagine” plate and left some flowers. I thought that was really amazing, in the time of darkness that you could still find light in that amazing city.

So here is to having hope in a brighter future, that the best of your todays be the worst of your tomorrows and all that jazz!

Lots of love and good luck in the new year! xx

It’s been a slow recovery for me after being struck by the annual “Christmas flu”. Usually I manage to avoid the sickness but it seemed particularity infectious this year. Feeling somewhat improved today, I took a lazy pajama morning, curled up on the couch with a cup of coffee and a Kinfolk magazine. The pictures and stories are so inspiring and heartwarming…I wouldn’t mind doing this more often, whether I’m sick or not!

For me there is only one perfume; that is the Miss Dior Cherie. I have used this for years now and I am still in love with it.  One spray is good enough to last all day  & the packaging is so special. It smells like summer, which is why I am loving it even more in the winter since summer feels like forever away.

I am not a huge sparkle girl, so wearing a dress that looks like a disco ball is a little intimidating to me. When I found this burgundy dress by free people I was really excited to wear it during the holiday season, since it was a little dressier but met all my dress requirements (3/4 length sleeve, empire waistline, shorter hemming). So if you were looking for a different alternative to glitter, then I would highly recommend something of this nature! Plus if you want to wear a touch of glitter you can just hold a cupcake with a giant sparkler, something I will defiantly be doing! Happy New Year everyone!!!
